R&D with and for companies

Since 2007, the Information Technologies & Business Informatics (IWI) department has been working on the systematic development and management of innovative (technical) services. In recent years, we have intensively studied various existing process models for product development and tested them in practice in numerous projects together with partner companies. Based on the experience gained, we developed our own phase-oriented process model that follows the state-gate concept. We also developed a toolbox containing a variety of possible tools for each individual phase of the development and management process. This model serves as a guideline that supports companies in the development of services and thus enables sustainable product development to ensure competitiveness. Our aim is to raise awareness of the importance of this topic for Austria as a business location and the companies operating in it.

Forschungsschwerpunkte

The existing areas of expertise have been bundled into key research areas, whereby our main focus is on the field of IT-supported services. This is reflected in three research and development directions.

  • Service Engineering - Process model for structured service development:
    (a) Applied research to optimize the model and improve its applicability for small and medium-sized enterprises;
    (b) agile approaches to optimize service development;
    (c) Increasing the degree of maturity in the market launch of (IT) services.
  • Smart Services - Autonomous systems for IT-supported services.
  • Development of market-ready IT-based services for small and medium-sized companies

This research focus requires an interdisciplinary research team that covers the following areas of expertise:

  • Business administration and marketing
  • Strategic management
  • Process Management
  • Technology management
  • Information technologies: Internet technology, software engineering, security

R&D offerings

The Information Technologies & Business Informatics degree course at CAMPUS 02 offers companies a wide range of opportunities for cooperation. In addition to comprehensive technical expertise, students receive a very practice-oriented education. This combination of theory and practice is implemented, among other things, in the form of various projects with cooperation partners, whereby the results of these projects are of high quality and measurable for the company. However, the degree program itself also offers opportunities for cooperation, whereby the company can draw on the extensive knowledge pool of the degree program and use the know-how of the employees.

Such collaborations create added value for the partner companies, which can of course benefit from the quality of the training through close cooperation with the degree program. Furthermore, there is also the possibility of funding being granted for projects between companies and the university of applied sciences, which provide the company with considerable advantages in the areas of research and development and innovation.
