AI at CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences – We focus on innovative education

AI technologies are now present in many areas of our lives. AI-based tools, such as large language models (LLM) or image, sound, and video-generating models, already have usable applications across many academic fields and are evolving at a rapid pace.

As a university of applied sciences, we aim to stay current and prepare our students as best as possible for a future with AI. We are committed to facing this challenge and keep our teaching staff informed in various ways.

Some of our activities in this area are as follows:

Furthermore, as part of an international, cross-institutional research project, we gathered the opinions of our teaching staff on the topic of AI.

In addition, we have created a comprehensive section on our Digitalisation website (Digitalisation – FH CAMPUS 02) dedicated to the topic of AI, where we inform teaching staff and students about our stance on this issue and provide them with some interesting information (Artificial Intelligence – FH CAMPUS 02). Last but not least, there is a page on the Digitalisation website for anyone interested in the topic of research and development (and AI).

Teaching staff can find information on our website, for example, about:

  • Preparation of lessons with AI
  • Use of AI in lessons
  • AI competencies and how they can be promoted
  • Performance assessment
  • Academic work and AI
  • Opportunities & risks

On the page for students, the opportunities and risks of using AI in studies, as well as the use of AI in teaching and assessment, are explicitly addressed from a student's perspective.

The section AI in R&D discusses the role of AI in research and development, addresses the risks associated with the use of AI in R&D, and focuses on the integration of AI into research processes at FH CAMPUS 02 through practical examples. Here, you can learn, for instance, how AI contributes to the further development of machine learning applications.

We can also provide a first sneak peek from our research project on the AI competencies of our teaching staff – the AI competencies of our teaching staff are generally rated as high and are not significantly related to their level of education. Our lecturers are already using a variety of different AI tools, primarily for lesson preparation and follow-up. They see challenges in training competencies for using AI for both teaching staff and students, as well as in the need for tailored assignments. They identify opportunities in creating individual learning paths for students and in more efficient lesson preparation, which allows for more creativity, diversity, and critical thinking.

How this could be implemented can, by the way, be read in the AI use cases of the eCampus:

Course: Using Generative AI Language Models to Individualise Learning Processes | eCampus (e-campus.st)

Course: Teaching AI Competencies | eCampus (e-campus.st)

Course: Using Artificial Intelligence for Lesson Preparation | eCampus (e-campus.st)

We focus on innovative education and stay current with the topic of AI!
