We make business easy! How the cooperation between BMD and RWC enables a smooth transition between studies and job

The Department of Financial Accouting endeavours to keep its finger on the pulse of the economy. It is particularly important to us not only to provide our students with sound theoretical knowledge, but also to equip them with practical skills. For this reason, we have optimised our curriculum in order to expand our cooperation with BMD.

BMD is the Austrian market leader in business software solutions for tax consultancy and accountancy firms. A first-class software solution is also provided for companies in various business areas in order to realise capacity, time and cost savings. The Austrian company was founded in 1972 as a classic garage and now has several locations both nationally and internationally in Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

From the winter semester 2023, our students will receive intensive training in the application of BMD in five different courses. Finally, their skills will also be certified by BMD and RWC.

The training programme begins for everyone in Financial Accounting BMD. It is important to us to familiarise students with the basics of accounting in theory and to apply what they have learned directly in the accounting software. By linking theory and practice, we hope to improve the networking of knowledge and speed up practical application.

In the 4th and 5th semesters, students must choose a specialisation. Specialisations are offered in the areas of accounting, cost accounting and budgeting. Two out of three subjects can be chosen individually. In all courses, case studies are solved with BMD in order to link the content developed in the previous semesters with active application in a software solution. This is intended to make it easier for our students to make the transition from studying to practice.

In order to ensure high-calibre training, we wanted to see the company for ourselves. Under the leadership of Mr Meiregger and at the invitation of Mr Roland Beranek, the RWC team was able to take a look behind the scenes at BMD. The exploratory tour took us to the charming town of Steyr, where BMD has its headquarters and coordinates its national and international locations.

Our journey of discovery began in the academy rooms, where the basis for knowledge and expertise is laid. This is where it becomes clear that education and training are very important at BMD. The academy rooms provide the perfect setting for training courses, workshops and the exchange of expertise.

We were then taken on a tour of the modern work areas. The employees were involved in the design of these areas. It is clear to see that BMD attaches great importance to the well-being and satisfaction of its employees. Numerous plants ensure a pleasant indoor climate and create a green oasis in the centre of the office. Silent rooms offer retreats for concentrated work and moments of peace and quiet. This creates an atmosphere that promotes the creativity and productivity of employees.

The tour of BMD made a lasting impression on us. The Austrian company radiates a unique combination of professionalism, innovative spirit and appreciation for its employees. It is clear to see that BMD not only develops software solutions, but has also created an inspiring corporate culture that promotes its employees in the best possible way and thus provides its customers with comprehensive support.

Finally, we would like to thank Mr Roland Beranek and the entire BMD team for the invitation and the inspiring tour. The impressions we gained will stay with us for a long time and motivate us in our own working environment. We would also like to incorporate this spirit and the opportunities offered into our teaching and not only equip our students with the necessary ‘know how’, but also enable them to ‘do how’ through BMD.
