Due to the international day of women and girls in science (February 11th, 2023), we interviewed Ms. Al Masalmeh Ahlam – a student in the first semester of our bachelor’s degree program „Smart Automation“ (Department Automation Technology), about what clichés and situations she has been confronted with as a women in the technology industry so far!
- Why did you decide to study at CAMPUS 02?
I choose to study at CAMPUS 02 because it offers great & developed learning environment. This university of applied sciences provided all the possibilities I need for the future, especially in the working field.
- What was/is challenging for you personally in your bachelor´s degree program and how did/do you master it?
I already completed a degree in industrial automation engineering so the biggest challenge for me is to study again in the nearly same area. However, it gives me strength to unite the received knowledge of both degree programs.
- Is it difficult for you to have English as your course language?
Not at all. Actually, I prefer to study in English so that I have a bigger chance to find a job in an international environment.
- What have you learned so far at CAMPUS 02 that you particularly appreciate in your job?
I find myself really lucky because although I am in my first semester, I still have the possibility of working and studying the same time. My employer and CAMPUS 02 mutually help me to grow and develop myself. Moreover, I can certainly perform better in my job because of the knowledge, Smart Automation gave me – especially in the field of programming.
- What are your thoughts on the statement: „IT is nothing for women…“?
Then, it is nothing for anyone!
- Do you remember a certain „cliché moment“ during your studies or job where you’ve been confronted with woman prejudices? If so, how did you handle it?
I remember one particular situation. When I had my first bachelor’s degree in industrial automation engineering seven years ago, the company I was applying to, rejected my application just because I was a woman. Nevertheless, it had changed throughout the years and now I am treated like everyone else.
- What advice would you give to people, who are willing to start “SMART AUTOMATION” at CAMPUS 02 UAS?
It will be the best life choice for them. Studying should not just be one “stop” in life – it needs to prepare them to the future. And it is exactly what Smart Automation does.
- Do you have any tips regarding to the application process?
The application process went smoothly, and all my questions were immediately answered.
- What are your plans in the future?
I would love to continue my studies on the FH CAMPUS 02 Automatisierungstechnik-Wirtschaft master’s program, however I still need to acquire the German language. Also, my plan is to work in the field of artificial intelligence within Austria. In my private opinion AI is the key for the universe and the future – and I want to be there to actively form it.
- What is your life motto?
Learning makes your life valuable!
- Please complete this sentence: “ For me, CAMPUS 02 UAS is…
the best environment for learning.”
