Energy & Internet of Things

The specialist area of Energy & Internet of Things (IoT) is dedicated to energy optimisation in the broad context of automation technology. In addition to energy technology issues, this also includes topics in the field of digitalisation and data analysis 
The R&D activities of the department are particularly application-orientated and, thanks to the extensive laboratory infrastructure, offer a wide range of opportunities. (EAS-Lab) eine Vielzahl an Leistungsmöglichkeiten für heimische Unternehmen. Neben Auftragsarbeiten bearbeitet der Fachbereich auch geförderte F&E-Projekte und ist Teil nationaler und internationaler Projektkonsortien.

The subject areas of the specialist area include the following main areas:

  • Energy optimisation (e.g. process control systems, renewable energies, simulations)
  • Home and building automation (smart home / smart building)
  • IoT and network technology
  • Data analysis and visualisation (e.g. big data, mixed reality)

Students have the opportunity to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the department as part of their bachelor's degree programme. In addition, interested students are actively involved in R&D activities through the preparation of bachelor's and master's theses.
The expertise of the electronics, IT and control engineering departments complements the specialist area and creates interdisciplinary synergies for the successful realisation of complete solutions in the extensive pool of automation technology topics.
