Learning goals

Internationalisation and Networks

After this course, participants will be able to :

  • name benefits of an international network at university level.
  • successfully establish first contact with potential cooperation partners.
  • set up a meaningful international network and evaluate it.

Lecturing:

  • establish a meaningful international network at degree programme/curriculum level.
  • make use of an international network at lecturer level.
  • list possibilities of international cooperation in lecturing including their organisatory/programme frameworks.
  • give examples of best practice incoming/outgoing teaching mobilities.
  • describe benefits and challenges of international lecturing.

R&D:

  • characterize a meaningful international network in R&D.
  • make use of an international network in the field of R&D.
  • list possibilities of international cooperation in R&D including their organisatory/programme frameworks.
  • define criteria of a well-established international network and evaluate networks.
  • describe challenges of international-collaborative R&D projects and name possible solutions.

    English Conversation for Lecturers

    After this course, participants will be able to :

    • small-talk at conferences and similar events and freely interact with other conference participants.
    • interact with visiting professors/lecturers.
    • converse with students before/during/after class as well as during office hours.
    • telephone effectively in English.
    • speak confidently und fluently about both personal and professional topics.

      The Multicultural Classroom

      After this course, participants will be able to :

      • explain the basics of intercultural communication.
      • reflect on one’s own intercultural competence.
      • elaborate on the concepts of multi-, inter- or transculturalism.
      • give examples for problems in multicultural settings (stereotypes, ethnocetrism, social perception).
      • describe cultural differences and take them into account in a multicultural classroom.
      • name challenges of working in multicultural teams and classrooms and suggest possible solutions.

        Presentations and Lectures in English

        After this course, participants will be able to :

        • prepare and deliver presentations/lectures in English.
        • use verbal language effectively (correct and selective use of phrases/idioms for a professional and fluent performance).
        • apply various strategies and language techniques.
        • present/lecture lively and persuasively, clear and with emphasis.
        • Involve participants in the context of a presentation and interact with students in class.
        • Presentation 15 minutes: at a conference or during a visit at a partner university
        • Analyse your own and peer performance.

          Virtually Mobile and Competent Teachers

          After this course, participants will be able to :

          • use technology for virtual mobility confidently.
          • learn effectively in collaborative relationships via online-learning.
          • describe concepts of online learning and virtual mobility.
          • name rules of online communication.
          • adapt their way of communication to (multicultural/international) online settings.
          • discuss differences between online learning and traditional learning.
          • discuss the new role of teachers/tutors in an online setting.
          • list different ideas of good practice in that field.
          • find and make use of virtual mobility offers in Europe.

            Teaching in English

            After this course, participants will be able to :

            • use English as a working language within an academic setting.
            • written correspondence with students, colleagues, partner universities.
            • language for effective instructions.
            • instruct students to work alone, in pairs or on groups in English (cf. Module Basic Principles).
            • give diverse (oral and written) feedback to students in English.
            • set up and manage discussions in English.
            • use English culturally and socially aware.

              English Lecture Project

              After this course, participants will be able to :

              • choose a suitable class sequence of minimum 5 teaching units to be held in English.
              • draft the structure of these 5 teaching units.
              • prepare written materials and prompt notes for teaching in English.
              • hold a 15-minute class sequence starting with a short theoretical input (presentation, lecture) of maximum 5 minutes.
              • Analyse your own and peer performance.
